But how does that format affect how you learn? Read on to find out.
Are Portage Learning Courses Online Asynchronous?
Yes. Portage Learning’s courses are online asynchronous.
You can start at any time and learn from anywhere, rather than be constrained by a traditional semester system. The format makes it perfect for those who want to get a bachelor’s degree:
- Upon graduation from high school
- In their 30s or older
- While working a full-time job or raising children
- After obtaining a certificate or an associate degree
How Are Portage Learning Courses Structured?
Portage Learning courses include six to 10 modules, which focus on a theme and explore the subject in written form, video lecture, and review questions.
At the end of each one, you take an assessment.
To ensure you retain the information learned in the modules, you must wait 48 hours after taking an exam before sitting for another one. Professors then have up to 72 hours to grade it.
Courses may be completed in eight to 10 weeks, or you can take up to a year if it works better for your schedule.
While enrolled, you can go over the course material and message your professor via your student dashboard as much as needed to ensure you understand the information fully.
Other supports available include:
- Academic coaching: The Student Success team walks alongside students as they work through courses, helping with time management, study skills, grade calculations, and more.
- Currents Conference: Each year, Portage Learning hosts an online conference for students. It includes sessions relevant to your academic and professional success.
- WAVES: A community hub for students, featuring educational blogs, insightful podcast conversations, inspirational stories, and more to keep you motivated.
- Individualized learning: Students enjoy a one-to-one relationship with their professors. You can message them via your student dashboard to ask questions. Faculty also provide regular feedback on your assignments and grade exams within 72 hours, so you can stay on track with your academic goals.
